Shapeshifter’s Drum Circles Begin

We first started having drum circles in our home in 1990 in S. St. Petersburg. It was a new and exciting time and not many were doing drum circles at that time. We were definitely pioneering an amazing start of something that is now a part of popular culture everywhere. We actually started them to help people learn how to step out of old stiff, limited patterns and move into their inner creativity expressions. In a sense, it was an awesome therapy to help many people really open up and express. We did these for over a year at that time and had many amazing circles. We also collected so many drums and percussion instruments.

Now it is time again for us to start regular circles. We like to do the smaller type, intimate circles – more shamanic in nature. We start with an opening circle where people get an opportunity to meet and know the others in the circle. We use very dim lighting/candlelight, so that people just go within, close their eyes and find their expression and begin the circle from silence. We encourage drumming, lots of percussion in between the rhythms and some vocals like toning, chanting or singing and especially dancing/movement.

These will be held at the Longhouse Yoga space in Gulfport/St. Pete on Saturday nights – starting weekly in 2012. The circle is free, but we do ask that you support the center with a donation of $5-$10 to pay for their costs. Not required, but suggested.

An altar will be set up in the center of the circle and you can bring in any power objects you would like to add to the group energy.

Even if you don’t want to drum, dance or sing, you can still come and be still and receive some great healing benefits from the circle. This is a great way to build up a community of like minded folks and this is our overall desire and goal with these circles; to get to know people who enjoy sharing energy with others in these formats.
